Gyakran találunk prepozíciókat a vonatkozói mellékmondatokban, és annak a prepozíciónak egy vonatkozó névmás a tárgya. Mindennapi angolban, a prepozíció általában a vonatkozói mellékmondat végére kerül, és a névmást megtarthatjuk vagy kihagyhatjuk. Formális angolban, a prepozíció a vonatkozó névmás előtt áll, és ebben az esetben a névmást nem hagyhatjuk ki. Az alábbi példákban, a zárójelben levő névmásokat nem hagyhatjuk ki.
